Turning Point, a leading social enterprise designing and delivering health and social care services, has agreed a loan facility with Social and Sustainable Capital (SASC) to purchase a property in Manchester, where they will be providing accommodation and support services to people with complex health and care needs.
The loan, from SASC’s Social and Sustainable Housing Fund II (SASH II), alongside a grant from The Access Foundation, will enable Turning Point to purchase a property which can be used to provide supported accommodation for individuals living with poor mental wellbeing and with mental health conditions’, a learning disability and/or substance use issues.
The property will include communal space for residents to meet and connect, as well as a dedicated staff office for 24/7 support workers, ensuring tenants receive individually tailored care and support in their journey toward greater independence.
Julie Bass, Chief Executive of Turning Point said: “At Turning Point, we are committed to creating real, lasting change for people who face some of society’s most complex challenges. The SASC investment will allow us to provide much needed supported housing for individuals in Manchester. With the help of the SASH II funding, we will ensure these individuals receive the care, support, and dignity they deserve.”
Mark Bickford, CEO of SASC said: “The demand for supported accommodation in Manchester is substantial, with significant gaps in provision for people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges. The property will provide a critical lifeline, offering not only a safe place to live but also the essential support needed for tenants to rebuild their lives and achieve greater stability.”
SASH II launched in November 2022 and is the follow-on fund to SASH which launched in May 2019 and successfully raised and allocated £64.5m to frontline charities. The fund supports charitable organisations that deliver a combination of support and housing to move from renting existing housing stock to owning it.
